Core el Centro Is Now Offering Community Acupuncture — And I'm the One Doing It
Happy summer solstice of 2026, my local friends.
I'm starting the season with something new that I am loving. On Wednesdays, I won't be at my office — instead, I'm offsite, offering community acupuncture (CA) for Core el Centro, a Milwaukee nonprofit I've admired for over twenty years.
The basics:
What: Community acupuncture
Where: Core el Centro, 130 West Bruce Street, Third Floor, Milwaukee, WI 53204
When: Wednesdays, 2–6pm
Booking: Call Core's reception desk
What is Community Acupuncture (CA)?
It's a different model than the one I usually practice. Instead of a private room with one practitioner and one patient, treatment happens in a shared space designed to give more people access to acupuncture, at a lower cost. Picture a room full of recliners, low light, and people resting - and me -speaking quietly and briefly with each person to start their session.
CA can address any TCM pattern, but the points used are more limited — concentrated mostly on the arms, legs, and head — since that's what the shared space allows. It also tends to be a bit more symptom-focused than root-cause when compared to 1:1 treatments (this is typical of CA in general). Conversation is brief by design, but the treatment holds its own.
If you've seen me before, you know communication is central to how I practice — but that looks different at Core. There, patients arrive having already completed a one-on-one intake with another provider. They settle into a recliner, I check briefly on what's symptomatically present for them that day, place needles (which takes around 10 minutes). Then they lean back, close their eyes, and rest for the rest of their appointment (about 30 min).
About Core el Centro
Core el Centro has offered affordable natural healing to Milwaukee residents for years, in Spanish and English, with a focus on people who face the most barriers to care. Spiritual counseling, energy work, acupuncture, massage, holistic exercise classes, and more — all grounded in a daily commitment to reducing those barriers and respecting the knowledge each person brings to their own care.
Spanish speakers: if your treatment isn't given in Spanish, an interpreter is available.
English speakers: many of Core's services are designed primarily for Spanish-speaking guests and those with limited access to care, so reception support is there to help you find a fitting class or treatment.
Why I'm there
I've been aware of Core's work since acupuncture school, over twenty years ago, and I've occasionally covered shifts there when their acupuncturists needed time off. So when they asked me to take over their two-week-old community acupuncture program, I said yes. I always feel at home at Core, and spending a day a week there, sharing my own skills, feels like a gift.
If you've been curious about community acupuncture feel free to contact me. If you know someone who could use Core’s holistic services — please check them (us?!) out.
Core el Centro is at 2nd and Bruce in Walkers Point, near Adventure Rock, Indeed Brewing, Vendetta Coffee and Anodyne Coffee
